Beef Pulao is one dish that is extremely popular in my household, and by popular, I mean three or four times a month!
This dish is swimming in delicious aromas full of herbs and spices. It is generally the one dish that is served at weddings, parties, Eid, and any other special occasion within the desi culture.
What is Beef Pulao

Beef Pulao is a rice dish that is baked together with meat. It has an array of herbs and spices such as cardamom, cilantro, onion, garlic, cloves and other ingredients. It can be served on its own or with a side of chutney.
Below is a recipe that my family has used time and time again.
Ingredients
Beef Pulao
- 1 whole onion
- Beef (you can also use chicken)
- 1/2 tsp Cardamom
- 1/2 tsp Clove
- 3 or 4 cinnamon sticks snapped in half
- Handful of cilantro
- 1/2 tbsp cooking oil
- 2 cups of basmati rice
- 2 tbsp Pulao massala
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tsp ginger
- 1 tsp garlic
Directions
- In a oven friendly pot, pour in cooking oil.
- Once the oil is warm, add in your onions, cardamom, cloves, and cinnamon sticks. Cook until onions are brown.
- Add in your meat, and toss in Pulao massala and salt.
- Once the meat is cooked, add your 2 cups of rice into the pot along with 4 cups of water.
- Place the entire pot into the oven and bake at 350°F for 40-45 minutes.
- Once the rice is cooked, remove the pot from the oven, add cilantro to the pot and allow to cool before serving.
Chutney
- 3 or 4 small cucumbers
- 1 whole lemon
- 1 whole red onion
- Handful of cilantro
Directions
- Cut ingredients into fine thinly slices
- Add ingredients to bowl
- Squeeze lemon into bowl. Mix everything together and enjoy.
