What comes to mind when you hear the word “Meatloaf”? To some, the name sounds very unappealing…Meatloaf…a loaf of meat. Not appetizing? It never bothered me, but two of my kids would instantly turn their noses up at the mere mention of meatloaf. Visually, it’s not the most appealing dish, but it remains at the top of the list for American comfort food favorites. I grew up on this meatloaf recipe and always looked forward to dinner when Mom had it on the menu. The smell of sweet and sour meatloaf cooking is simply amazing.
This is, hands down, the best meatloaf. If you like sweet and sour flavors, you’ll love this simple, inexpensive recipe. Sweet and sour meatloaf is delicious and you probably have most of the ingredients on hand. This is not your typical, dry meatloaf. It’s extremely moist and packs a punch of flavor! Serve it with mashed potatoes and a veggie…like steamed broccoli or fried okra and you have a delicious dinner that’ll make anyone’s mouth water!
Tip – I like to double the recipe when I make this one. Just cook both at the same time, then freeze one. All that’s necessary is to just warm it up.

Sweet and Sour Meatloaf
Ingredients:
- 2 lbs Ground Chuck
- 1 Small Onion (chopped
- 1 Egg
- 1/2 cup Italian Breadcrumbs
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/4 tsp Pepper
- 1 8 oz Canned Tomato Sauce
- 1/4 cup Vinegar
- 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 tsp Mustard
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, combine the first six ingredients and mix well.
In a small saucepan, combine the tomato sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce and mustard. Bring to a slight boil and stir.
Pour about a 1/4 to 1/2 of the sauce mixture into the meat mixture and mix well with your hands. (Be sure it’s cooled enough before you put your hands into it.)
Spray a casserole pan with a non stick cooking spray. Put meat mixture into the casserole and form into a loaf. With your little finger, poke several holes in the top. Then pour the rest of the sauce over the meatloaf and put into the preheated oven.
Cook about one hour and then let it rest for about 10 minutes before you slice it.
You may use lean ground beef/chuck with this one as well as turkey. The leaner the meat, the less grease you will have. Adding part of the sauce mixture helps to keep the meatloaf very moist.
