Laundry Room Before & After

admin

I love a pretty laundry room. Half of my pins on Pinterest and saved Instagram posts are coastal, light-filled spaces for washing clothes. Enter my very long, skinny, basement-y laundry room and my conundrum: What can we do to brighten this up and give it a little face lift?

As you can see below, the before wasn’t terrible but it just looked messy all the time. The wires hanging out of the walls were not fun to look at and the rolling rack on the left took up half the room.

But my biggest issue with the room before we made changes was that I didn’t have any counter or storage space. I now have the giant counter over the machines (usually the towels don’t live there) for folding and the cabinet for extra detergent, lingerie bags, the Guppybag, a tiny trash can, and single socks missing their partners.

We went back and forth on shelves vs cabinets and landed on a little of each. There is a tiny window at the top of the back wall which made it a little challenging to design something pretty but I think we did a good job with what we had.

I keep the products we use most often – detergent pods, oxygen boost powder, baby detergent, and Tide pens – on the counter for easy access. I do approximately 8000 loads of laundry/week so it’s nice to have everything right there.

Now that the practical piece is out of the way, let’s talk decor! My friend Roxy, founder of Society Social, recently launched a faux grasscloth peel & stick wallpaper that, I’m not kidding you, looks so real. She sent me a few rolls for this space (thanks, Roxy!) and I think I might use it in another color for our mudroom. It has a great texture and goes up a lot easier than regular wallpaper.

We landed on mineral blue for this room but I love some of the green hues she makes, especially the Hunter. As wallpaper does, it completely transformed the room into an ocean-y oasis that makes doing my least-favorite chore a little better.

I hope you enjoy this transformation as much as I did!
