Hello and Welcome to LearningWorks for Kids App Spotlights for Parents! In this series, we will be highlighting some apps that can really help your child’s executive functioning skills. Vamos a jugar con Canticos! Today we are going to be talking about the education and entertainment app Canticos Bilingual Preschool. This is an award-winning app that was designed by educators to use a play-based approach to language learning and development. All of the activities in the app are featured in both English and Spanish. When the user wants to switch between languages, they simply need to tap the language button at the top right side of the screen.

Canticos is a great way for your young child to practice focus and working memory skills. Learning a language gets harder and harder the older we get, so starting young is a great way to make a second language second nature. As your child interacts with the app, subtitles appear for both English and Spanish, allowing your child to make the connection between what they are hearing and the word they see highlighted on the screen.

And if your child is not yet reading whole sentences, pictures or video representations of the words are also playing on the screen, allowing your child to connect words to their corresponding images. Each video, book, game, and song is a developmentally-appropriate length, meaning your child can learn and practice their short-term focusing skills at the same time.
